Sen. Timothy Bee is a third-generation native of Tucson, Arizona. The 38-year-old and his wife Grace are parents to six children, including one foster child. Bee has been a member of the Arizona State Senate since 2001 and currently serves as Senate president of the 48th Legislature. He is the first Senate president from Southern Arizona since1974.
Bee was the Senate majority leader from 2003 to 2006. He has also served as vice-chairman of the Rules, Appropriations and Judiciary committees, member of the Natural Resources and Rural Affairs and Joint Legislative Budget committees, Joint Committee on Capital Review, DNA Task Force and Joint Select Committee on Corrections. He was also precinct committeeman for Precincts 274 and 389.
Pres. Bee works hard to bring issues from his district to the Capitol, such as the Tucson Veterans Home and resources for the trauma center. It is important to him that legislative members, media and the public learn more about southern Arizona and its contributions to the state. He has taken legislators into his district to visit the new cancer center and tour the Arizona-Mexico border. He has recognized Ft. Huachuca for its economic impact and direct contributions to the Global War on Terrorism. He also supports investments in our schools, community colleges and universities.
Advocating for domestic violence victims, this session Pres. Bee sponsored legislation that will toughen the domestic violence law and lessen the financial burden for victims who have to break their lease. He also sponsored a new law that extends the length of time that prosecutors can look for multiple domestic violence offenses.
Bee has received numerous honors and recognition from the business, education and health communities, parent organizations and conservation groups. Some of the honors he has received include the 2007 Legislator of the Year Award from the Arizona Association of Community Health Centers and the 2006 Real Estate Advocacy Group States National Legislator of the Year Award in recognition of his leadership in passing the largest tax cuts in Arizona.
Other honors include the Behavioral Health Coalition of Southern Arizona Distinguished Legislator Award, Arizona Association of Industries Friend of Arizona Industry Award, Arizona Association of Conservation Districts Resource Conservation Award, Southern Arizona DUI Task Force Legislative Award, Arizona Protective Parent Network Award, Arizona Friend of the Family Award, and Southern Arizona Home Builders Association Elected Public Official of the Year Award.
