Biographical Information

According to his obituary, "L. Thompson, ex-policemen and legislator."  The Arizona Republic, May 16, 1990 p. C 7, after graduating from Phoenix Union High School in 1942, Leon Thompson joined the police department.  In 1957, he was nearly killed when he was stabbed three times after being sent to the scene of a domestic quarrel.

Leon Thompson was elected to the Arizona House of Representatives in the November 6, 1962 General Election and, according to his obituary:

"Leon made constituent service an art form," said his fellow Democrat, House Minority Leader Art Hamilton, who described his longtime friend as the unofficial dean of black elected officials in the state.
