Representative Theresa Ulmer spent the first half of her life in a farm community in Nebraska.  Growing up in a rural area taught her how lives are intertwined, the importance of helping neighbors, the importance of community spirit and the importance of family values.  She decided to make Yuma her home and to raise her children there because Yuma reflects those rural values she grew up with.

Representative Ulmer is proud to have lived in Yuma for 15 years.  She is an active member of the Yuma community. She served as an ombudsman for the Agency on Aging, organized community participation for the Yuma County Interfaith organization, and served as a Commissioner for the Yuma County Planning and Zoning Commission.  As a member of Sierra Vista Presbyterian Church for about a decade, she has played guitar in the Praise Team and has served in a variety of positions.  She is an active member of the Yuma County Democratic Party as well as a Precinct Committee person for the County and State party.  Representative Ulmer is a mother of two children, ages 9 and 11.

She is currently an independent consultant for Mary Kay Cosmetics and also works as a business consultant.  Her 17 years of self-employment also have included financial accounting and ice cream manufacturing.  Her university studies and background in business management and accounting give her insight on the budget process and allow her to make prudent decisions about state spending.
