Biographical Information

The following is from the Legislative death resolution:

The Honorable James W. Carroll passed away in Tucson, Arizona, on April 2, 1959, at the age of fifty-six years.

Mr. Carroll was born on July 2, 1902, in Reynoldsville, Pennsylvania, but prior to his residence in the State of Arizona he resided for many years in Youngstown, Ohio.

The Honorable James W. Carroll made Tucson, Arizona, his home in 1937.  In Tucson he was employed by the Southern Pacific Railroad and, in 1951, Mr. Carroll retired from active employment.  After his retirement he was employed as advertising manager for the Labor Temple Printing Company and for a time worked for the State of Arizona in the Motor Vehicle Division of the State Highway Department.

The citizens of the Eleventh Legislative District in Pima County honored Mr. James W. Carroll by electing him as their Representative to the Arizona House of Representatives for the Twenty-second and Twenty-third Legislatures.  Mr. Carroll was conscientious in his application to his legislative duties and while in the Legislature he served on the Labor, Administration, Banking and Insurance, Highways and Bridges, and the Highway Study Committees.

Mr. James W. Carroll served as state president of the Hibernians and for a period of time was employed as the national organizer for the Hibernians.

Tucson Daily Citizen, April 3, 1959 and AZ death record, however, one Arizona Legislative Biography sheet had:  "Baltimore, Maryland - July 1, 1902" and one had:  "July 1, 1902, Reynoldsville, Pa."  A clipping attached to one of the sheets had "Born in Youngstown, Ohio, July 1, 1902" The 1910 Youngstown, OH federal census had the POB written over as Pennsylvania for "James F. Carroll" (sic) son of James and Anna Carroll and the 1920 Youngstown, OH federal census had Pennsylvania POB for James son of James and Ann Carroll; Death: AZ death record:  James Carroll and obituary:  "Ex-Legislator J.
