Biographical Information
The following is his death notice: "Former Legislator Dies as Result of an Accident." The Coconino Sun, November 3, 1922, p. 5Not only Tempe, but many in the county and state are shocked and grieved because of the sudden death of Hon. J. C. Goodwin on Wednesday evening.
Mr. Goodwin met with an accident on the Superior highway while on a trip last week, but the accident seemed so slight that his friends joked [with] him about it at first. He fell on his head out of the auto and although only a bruise seemed apparent at the time it is likely the impact was severe. He was taken to the hospital at Superior and treated, but seemed well enough to go home in two days. On arriving in Tempe Mr. Goodwin went to bed as he did not feel well. He grew worse from the start and in spite of medical attention, died Wednesday evening.
His death was also noted here: Tombstone Epitaph, November 5, 1922, p. 2:
Superior -- J. C. Goodwin, of Tempe, president of the Magmatic Copper Co., with properties at Superior, died at his home Wednesday, October 25, as the result of a fall from an automobile earlier in the week. Mr. Goodwin was a pioneer of Arizona, having resided here 37 years and was one of the best known mining men in the state.
