The following is from the Legislative death resolution:
A former Member of the Senate of the State of Arizona, the Honorable Joe C. Haldiman, Sr., passed away on April 4, 1968 in the City of Phoenix. He was seventy-three years old.
Mr. Haldiman was born July 2, 1894 in Missouri. He came to Phoenix with his family in 1909. He was educated in Phoenix schools and attended the University of Arizona.
During his many years in Arizona, Mr. Haldiman was active in many endeavors. He founded the Haldiman Brothers Insurance Agency in 1919 and was active in its management until a few years ago. From 1927 to 1929, he was co-owner and publisher of The Phoenix Gazette and during that time also published the Arizona Farmers magazine. A great supporter of Community interests, Mr. Haldiman served as Chairman of the Red Cross and Community Chest drives and for many years as Chairman of the U.S. Savings Bond Campaign in Maricopa County.
Active in the Elks Lodge in Arizona, Mr. Haldiman was a Past Exalted Ruler and P.D.D.G.E. He was also a Charter member of Silver Trowel Lodge F. and A. M., Life member of El Zaribah Shrine Temple, A Past President of the Arizona Club and Past Director of Phoenix Country Club.
Mr. Haldiman served with distinction in the Tenth, Twelfth and Fifteenth Legislatures. He served as an active member of the Standing Committees of Judiciary, Appropriations, Labor and Capital, Agriculture and Irrigation, Highways and Bridges, and Municipalities. He also served three times as Chairman Pro Tem of the Rules Committee, and was Chairman Pro Tem of the Committee on Suffrage and Elections, Chairman of the Banking and Insurance Committee and Chairman of the Committee on Municipalities. In the Twelfth Legislature, Mr. Haldiman was President of the Senate.
